This newest container terminal in Hamburg provides 4 berths for
the largest container vessel actually in operation (1,400 m
long quay wall).
The terminal concept shall allow a very fast throughput of boxes
on a 600 m wide reclaimed area.
The terminal operation is semi automatic. The largest ever constructed
gantry cranes operate with 2 trolleys. The main trolley (with operator)
moves containers between ship and a lashing platform. A second
fully automated trolley handles the boxes between lashing platform
and the AGV (automatic guided vehicle).
The AGVs transport the boxes between quay wall and stacks. Two
automated Rail Mounted Gantry cranes per stack (they can pass each
other) undertake operation in the stacks.
The back yard area is operated by trucks.
Sellhorn has designed, tendered, contracted and supervised the
works of all civil works in and on the reclaimed yard like
drainage
pavement
crane beams
supply lines (water, electricity, gas, fire fighting)
disposal (storm water, sewage)
special facilities (reefer, stacks for DG- and LG-container)
rail yard with 6 parallel tracks of 650 m length
each
The terminal commenced operator in 2002.
In 2003 about 1 mill. TEU have been handled through this terminal. The capacity
after completion will be close to 2 mill. TEU.
