A new urban district comprising a mixture of residential
blocks, commerce, retail business and cultural activities is being
developed on a former harbour area of 155 ha. The area will provide
5,500 flats for 12,000 inhabitants, appr. 20,000 jobs in the service
sector as well as cafés and restaurants, greens and other
open space.
The attractiveness of the Port City is given by the concept to erect
all buildings on elevated land, the embankment of which will be
susceptible to tidal waters of the river Elbe. Fascinating walkways
may be realized here, preserving the harbour-related and maritime
atmosphere.
Before awarding contracts to investors, SELLHORN acting on behalf
of HafenCity Hamburg GmbH, identified additional site-dependent
construction cost presented by the investors and prepared alternative
solutions. Main items of SELL¬HORN´s design work refer
to construction affected by tide water levels, controlled flooding
concepts, requirements of storm water protection as well as the
layout of foundation structures.
Furthermore
SELLHORN developed technical concepts respecting such infrastructural
facilities as e.g.
- subway U 4: vibrations,
pile depths
- quay walls: effect of neighbouring foundation , structures,
watertightness,
statical calculations and structures examinations
