Opportunities for re-shaping urbanity of the former NEPTUN shipyard in Rostock opened, when ship building activities ended there and clearing of idle lying production facilities started. Re-shaping efforts and thus revaluing this urban site met broad public interest due to relevant social aspects.

The former shipyard area covers about 30 ha at the left River Warnow embankment. The waterfront extends to about 1,500 m. This area is expected to gain again an urban importance as realized at the public Rostock city harbour.

HRI acquired the attractive city side of the area which is well linked to public traffic lines. A medium-term perspective was elaborated to convert the fallow site to become a multi-functional area with residential premises along the river embankment.
In order to realize the perspective SELLHORN provided urban-planning and landscaping design services and took over the facility management. Ideas of the land use plan were integrated into the official urban development framework of the community which was regularly adjusted to new actual demands: public traffic systems were restructured, the preservation of ancient monuments and other buildings of interest was initiated and a revitalisation of this area has been promoted eagerly. Financial assessments of existing buildings and sites were pre-conditions to make use of the premises.

Beyond the usual consulting service frames potential investors have been won and taken care of in realizing their individual ideas. With the ongoing re-utilisation of this former shipyard area the set-up of an official urban development plan became indispensable, decisive contributions of which have been prepared by SELLHORN.
