The Eurogate Container Terminal Hamburg GmbH currently
operates 7 berthing places for ships with container bridges. The
existing two storey interchange-building at the Zellmannstrasse
is used for processing the truck-container delivery and collection.
Directly attached to the interchange-building (block 1) is another
two storey operating building (block 2) that contains supply rooms
and offices on the ground floor, and changing rooms on the top floor.
Both buildings were built in 2004; an addition of storeys for the
future development was already considered.
Because of the rearrangement of the terminal area (extension of
the berthing places and terminal area), several office- and operations
buildings had to be taken away. These buildings are replaced and
expanded by the addition of storeys to the operations building 13.
The two existing floors of the operating building block 2 are built
using modular construction. The additions of storeys, on block 2,
are carried on using modular architecture. It contains besides a
canteen on the third floor, for the most part offices. The overall
increase of effective area in block 2, through the expansion, is
approximately 2600 square metres.
The building 13 is together with block 3 expanded in conventional
architecture and consists of 5 floors. The whole support structure
of the construction is built using solid architecture. In block
3 there are four storeys for offices planned, on the third floor
the canteen is extended with staffrooms. The overall effective area
of block 3 is approximately 3000 square metres.
The constructions of the facade for both building segments are
accomplished using light construction. One part is made of colour
coated metal- and panel elements and the other part is made of zinc-plate
elements which is a continuation of the existing facades.
The existing pedestrian bridge Dradenau, which joins the employees
parking area with the terminal area, is expanded to block 3 of the
building 13 throughout the building proposal.
