Expansion of the Skandinavienkai in Lübeck has started
The second phase of construction for the expansion of the Skandinavienkai was launched on the 1st of December 2017.
In collaboration with Lübecker Hafen-Gesellschaft mbH (LHG), the Hanseatic City of Lübeck is extending, to the west, the existing commercial port area at the Skandinavienkai in Lübeck-Travemünde.
An existing brownfield site of around 16 hectares will be developed for RoRo traffic and multifunction halls for covered loading activity will be built. This will include removing and transporting 1.4 million cubic metres of soil.
As part of the preparation of the construction site, clearing and grass cutting will take place from the beginning of December 2017, as well as the removal of a 20 cm deep layer of vegetation and topsoil.
The expansion of the site is divided into a 2nd and 3rd construciton phase, with the 2nd phase being expected to be completed in Autumn 2019. Sellhorn Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH will carry out the planning and supervision of the construction works.
Approval was granted by Bernd Saxe, Mayor of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck, Joanna Glogau, Senator in charge of construction for the Hanseatic City of Lübeck, Prof. Dr. Sebastian Jürgens, Managing Director of LHG and Knut Hansen, CEO of Stora Enso Logistics. The group is a major new client on the Skandinavienkai and they intend to use the site for at least five years.
